About Guns & Gear
Guns & Gear is a locally owned firearms, gunsmithing, and customization shop located in La Porte City, Iowa. We opened our storefront in November 2024, but our experience in the firearms industry started long before our doors officially opened. Before expanding into a retail location, Josh Lansink operated as a home-based FFL for nearly 10 years, building a strong foundation in firearms sales, gunsmithing, custom firearm work, refinishing, and restorations.
Guns & Gear is built around a small local team with a shared commitment to quality work, honest service, and supporting the community we call home. We all live locally to La Porte City and believe in supporting our customers, our neighbors, and other small businesses in the area.
Our Team
Josh — Owner
Josh is one of the owners of Guns & Gear and brings years of hands-on firearm experience to the business. He handles firearm custom work, gunsmithing projects, hydrodipping, refinishing, and firearm restorations. With nearly a decade of experience as a home FFL and a strong background in firearm repair and restoration work, Josh brings practical knowledge, craftsmanship, and attention to detail to every project.
Lacie — Office & Financial Manager, Website Developer
Lacie manages the office, finances, website, and business systems for Guns & Gear. She handles much of the behind-the-scenes work that keeps the store running, from financial operations and website development to online systems, customer support, and day-to-day business organization.
Nick — Owner, Diode Laser Operator, Social Media Manager & Inventory Manager
Nick is also an owner of Guns & Gear and helps manage several key parts of the business. He oversees inventory, manages social media, and operates the diode laser for custom engraving and specialty projects. Nick helps keep products moving, customers informed, and our online presence active.
Jeremy — Licensed Gunsmith
Jeremy is our licensed gunsmith and is certified through Sonoran Desert Institute, one of the nation’s well-known gunsmithing schools. His training and technical knowledge help support our gunsmithing services, repairs, firearm maintenance, and custom work.
